Moda Frivols!

A couple of months ago, Moda came out with what are called "Frivols Kits" that come in a cute tin box. These kits include everything you need to make a quilt top. They also sell a coordinating kit that provides you with backing and binding fabrics. Well I took the plunge and paid for the membership to receive every monthly kit along with the backing/binding fabrics. Every month, for 12 months, they send out a new Frivol kit. I thought this would be great for me to get a few quilts done and gain more experience. All of the guess work it taken out since they provide the right amount of fabric that you need along with a pattern that you follow.

The Moda Frivol Kit 1 included fabrics by Bonnie and Camille from their "Hello Darling" line and a pattern titled "Kindred". I couldn't wait to get started with this quilt so I just went for it!!

Now this is the sample given in the tin. It's so pretty, but I wanted to change it up a little. I decided that instead of using one fabric for each square, I was going to mix them up!

This is what I started to come up with. I mixed two different patterns for each square. Now the sample had 4 rows, which seemed small when I put the 4 rows together. There was enough fabric left over for me to add a 5th row.

Here is what my finished quilt top looked like! Eeeeeeeee!! I was so happy with how it turned out! The length was so much better after adding that 5th row.  Now I still needed to add the batting, backing fabric, and binding!

I'm pretty ambitious (and frugal) so I decided to quilt it myself versus paying to take it to a long arm quilter. My machine has a small throat, so quilting the pieces together was a less than pleasant experience! LOL

I conquered it and was able to quilt it and then bind it!! I am sooooo thrilled with how it turned out! I love everything about it and I'm so glad I mixed the colors up a bit!!

I have the 2nd kit already, but haven't had a chance to put that one together yet! As soon as I do, I'll make sure to post about it here!!

Have a lovely day, friends! Blessings!!
