I know so many people who "can". I've been wanting to try it, but thought it was such a daunting task. Well, after visiting my local Kmart last week, I found a canning kit calling my name! Should I, or shouldn't I, that was the question in my head. Sometimes the conversations I have with myself can be scary. Well, I convinced myself to take the plunge. I knew the first thing that I wanted to can was Mr.Tuki's salsa. (I taught the man well)!
All ingredients were fresh from Mr. Tuki's garden (minus the salt)! I was so excited to get started. My man made the salsa and I started to can it. Lucky for me, my cousin came over for a visit while I thought I was starting to can. I told her I washed the jars and had them sitting in hot water. She gasped and asked if I had boiled the jars yet... huh, um, no! Drats!! Well, I had to empty the jars out and start all over again. Of course I boiled the jars and waited for about 5 minutes. I was so anxious that I only let them boil for about 4 minutes! LOL I was determined, but impatient (my downfall). I filled up the jars quickly, sealed them and put them back in the pot to boil for about 10 minutes. Success!!!
Here's what I'd like to can next as soon as it's nice and ready for the pickin'. I'm looking forward to making something yummy with this in the fall... pumpkin pie anyone?
I'm so thrilled that I took the plunge and gave canning a try. Gotta love YouTube videos and help from family. How about you? Are you a canner? If so, what do you can? If not, give it a try... I dare you!
Thank you so much for visiting my blog. Please feel free to leave a comment. God bless!!

Tuki: I never canned in my life. I'm a city girl (Bronx, NY). But I remember my grandmother, in North Carolina having bottles and bottles of canned food. OOO! I thought this was magic. Many years ago when my sister moved from Boston area to Maryland, she got into canning, making soap and creams. She sold items for a church at a farmer's market and was befriended and taught many wonderful things including canning. She had boxes of mason jars in her apartment. However, due to serious health problems, she had to move back to NY with my parents (love them dearly, but Oh, Lord!)She no longer does canning. I have encouraged her to do so.
It is such a blessing to be able to preserve fruits and vegetables and have them all year round. It brings home into your home.
